“Nobody wants to be uncomfortable when traveling,” said Elaine Kim. “Comfort is a big, big part of travel, and a capsule wardrobe requires very little thought.” She added, “When you have 100,000 things to do, you want to know your clothes are ready when you are, whether you’re shopping, sightseeing, changing shoes for dinner, or drinking wine with a winemaker. You want to look and feel good, with the freedom and comfort to move.”
Comfort is a big part of traveling, and creating a capsule wardrobe for your purpose is not only one less thing to think about but also helps you look and feel your best, no matter what you are doing or where your journey takes you.
For 18 years, the Elaine Kim collection has been a testament to vision and adaptability. Kim’s designs focus on intimate, client-driven retail styling for women, creating clothing that is both personal and enduring for the modern woman’s wardrobe.
At Kim’s boutique in Ketchum, Idaho, the internationally recognized fashion designer has created a welcoming space where timeless design meets personal expression. Kim’s forward-thinking design approach focuses on clean lines, minimalism, and personal expression and is streamlined with an eye toward form and materials—a perfect union for ready-to-go travel wear for all occasions and places.
Every season, Kim produces 30 to 50 travel-ready separates, layering essentials, dresses, outerwear, and accessories in urban neutrals and industrial-inspired hues. Her signature tech-stretch pant is reimagined seasonally in multiple silhouettes. The collection is designed for women who live fully—moving between continents and between professional and personal
roles, and between seasons—with grace and ease.
“When you look together, you’re taken seriously, especially as a woman,” said Kim. “You should always feel confident in what you wear.”
For the busy woman on the go or the summer traveler, Kim has suggested versatile pieces for two weeks of travel that feel amazing and pack beautifully. She noted that one should always have breathable fabrics, relaxed silhouettes, and elevated accessories, which are perfect for a hassle-free adventure. Kim’s collection has been designed to mix and match and move seamlessly through every summer itinerary.
She suggested always having a fresh white shirt, a white cardigan sweater, a solid-colored dress, a pair of black pants and a pair of white pants that fit well but accommodate swelling, and versatile pieces, such as a poncho that can be used as a scarf and also cover your body for a different look on another day. In addition, a light solid-color jacket, an easy-to-wear, appropriately lengthened skirt, and a shell top are essential. She also recommended that comfortable walking tennis shoes and versatile sandals or flats will work with any outfit. Also, Kim finds that a tote bag and a bucket hat are very handy when in travel mode.
“My summer collection features pieces designed to be recombined into multiple outfits, perfect for summer trips and made for wherever the season takes you,” said Kim. “You will look like a million bucks wherever you go.”
Elaine Kim directs numerous pop-up shops and seasonal trunk shows at exclusive travel destinations, including Sun Valley, Aspen, Jackson Hole, Deer Valley, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Dallas, Houston, the Hamptons, and Miami.
