About the First Issue:

"A Banner for the bold"

For our first issue, we went back to the beginning—to the banner that started it all.

The cover of ID Guide reimagines the iconic image on the Idaho state flag, paying tribute to the people, places, and values that define our state. Titled “Banner for the Bold,” this modern interpretation honors Idaho’s legacy while casting a vision for what’s next.

At the heart of the original seal—a sun rising over a river, a pine tree, a miner, a woman holding the scales of justice—are symbols of balance, liberty, and abundance. And most notably: the phrase “Esto Perpetua”—let it be perpetual.

Created in 1891 by Emma Edwards, the Idaho state seal remains the only U.S. seal designed by a woman. A teacher and artist by trade, Edwards won a statewide design contest and was awarded $50 and a place in Idaho history.

This issue also features the star garnet, Idaho’s official state gem, a rare and luminous stone found only in Idaho and India. Like the people of this state, it’s strong, unique, and built to endure.

Our cover blends this legacy with bold, modern visuals—a tribute to the real crown jewel of Idaho: the hardworking, creative, and fiercely independent people who call it home.
